What you’ll find inside

Adobe InDesign Classroom in a Book (2021 release) by Kelly Kordes Anton and Tina DeJarld is a project-based guide to page layout and document production in InDesign. Its 15 lessons cover the workspace and document setup before moving into objects, color, text, typography, styles, tables and placed graphics. The title is version-specific, so students should check that the 2021 release is the one named by their course or compatible with their installed software.

From a new document to final output

The contents progress from setting up pages and working with objects to flowing and editing text, applying typographic controls, using styles, building tables and importing graphics. Later lessons address transparency, printing and exporting, creating interactive PDF forms and making a fixed-layout EPUB. This sequence connects layout decisions with the outputs that designers and publishers may need to produce, while giving readers dedicated sections for common InDesign tasks.

Students can use the lessons to build a repeatable document workflow, and design learners may revisit topics such as text flow, styles or placed images while completing a project. The book teaches software techniques, not design approval or print-production guarantees; final files still need to be checked against a printer’s or publisher’s specifications. Since interfaces change, follow current Adobe support instructions when the 2021 controls differ from the software in use.

Who may find it useful

I just purchased the ePub version of this ebook on and am quite disappointed to find that the one thing I needed was not included in this version of the ebook – How to create a “reflowable ePub Document.” Fixed Layout does me no good – most epubs need to be relowable. Reflowable was in the 2020 version, and I assumed (evidently incorrectly) that this version would include it as well. Is there a way for me to get that “chapter?” I definitely cannot go buy the 2020 version of the ebook just for the chapter on Reflowable ePubs, as I just spent money on this (which I though was an updated version of the 2020 version). I am a freelancer – clients and money are scarce, but I have several new clients who want ePubs of their ebooks and I wanted concise written instructions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you need this ebook for a graphic design course, it is indeed the ebook it says it is. Good stuff

As a self-publisher trying to use InDesign for the first time, I found this ebook useful but was frustrated at the lack of information on publishing an ebook. I spent hours on Adobe help and the InDesign Community pages piecing together what I needed. All done now, and this remains a useful reference ebook. Bit expensive though, would have been happier at around £20.

Good quality ebook and really helps you learn indesign.
