What you’ll find inside
Chemistry: The Central Science, 14th Edition is a general chemistry textbook by Theodore L. Brown, H. Eugene LeMay Jr., Bruce E. Bursten, Catherine J. Murphy, Patrick M. Woodward and Matthew W. Stoltzfus. Pearson identifies it as a text for two-semester general chemistry. Check that the fourteenth edition and its chapter sequence match your course before choosing this file.
From chemical foundations to applications
The contents begin with matter, energy, measurement, atoms, molecules and ions, then build into reaction equations, stoichiometry and reactions in aqueous solution. Subsequent chapters introduce thermochemistry, electronic structure, periodic properties, bonding and molecular geometry. The sequence continues through gases, liquids, solids and solutions, then develops chemical kinetics, equilibrium and acid–base chemistry. Later sections address environmental chemistry, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, nonmetals, transition metals and the chemistry of life.
That progression gives students a way to review foundational models alongside quantitative problem solving. Pearson describes data-informed revisions to the fourteenth edition, while the book’s contents show how topics move from measurement and atomic structure into reaction behavior and broader chemical systems. The title is intended as a course text; its presence here does not imply that every edition, assignment platform or access code is interchangeable.

Ashley Encarnacion –
The ebook was excellent to use for my college class for chemistry and I had already returned it so I just wanted to say that my ebook was returned.
Alexandra H. –
good explanations, many exercises and examples. easy to understand. only downside: when writing notes with pencil inside, it’s barely eraseable (still very visable on paper). still would recommend.

The ebook was listed as “used – good”, but I would have categorized it as very good or like new! Except for a sticker at the top and light dulling of 2 corners, it’s great – the pages feel new, there are no highlights or writing, and no folds on any of the pages.
Funk Nugget –
I was looking for an updated version of the text and found this edition. I like it because it is well written and I believe a great review of basic Chemistry for those looking for refresher material.
John M. Abela –
Will adopt for my classes.

Given the current Covid 19 pandemic, many college semesters are ending later than originally planned (including my son’s current semester at Lonestar Community college). It would be a great gesture for you to consider a free extension for those students that need extra time to finish this semester’s work.
